This workshop demonstrates a playful exploration of the compositional aspect of typography. The initial studies embedded below were created utilising analogue, collage-based methods. I used a stencil approach with the addition of ink to create refined edges and imperfect strokes. This heightens the sense that the work was conducted ‘off-screen’, aiding its less-structured and more free nature.
Further experimentation was conducted utilising digital techniques. Composition, form and a reflection of transcribed meaning were taken into account when manipulating original imagery. The idea that polished perfection exists as a temporary perception inspired my motives when making visual choices, combined with symbolic connotations taken directly from meaning. This inspired the general ‘fade out’ stylisation seen correlatively throughout my outcomes.
Typographic descriptions were included within my designs to communicate a informed approach, providing a direct link between subject and meaning.

A stronger consideration was adhered towards the element of compositional importance, where I began to investigate contrast, negative space, balance, and position.
